When is a clock not just a clock? When it provides so much more than just the time: temperature, phase of the moon, and accuracy within one second per year, for example. This handsome wall clock, with its dual LCD screens and black-accented brushed aluminum finish, is an example of household life being enhanced by science. The WS-8117U-AL can hang on the wall or stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Radio-controlled time (to the hour, minute, and second) and date are prominently displayed, along with indoor and outdoor temperatures measured in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The day of the week can be displayed in English, French, Spanish or German. Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes, and time zones from Greenwich Mean Time to -12 GMT can be selected, with three-letter identifications for US time zones. An alarm feature is useful as a timer, and, if the clock happens to hang or stand near a bed (or a couch that's used for napping), a snooze feature allows for gradual wake-up. Moon phase shows in twelve increments, from new moon, through gibbous and crescent phases (waxing and waning), to quarter and finally full moon. The clock comes with La Crosse wireless transmitter TX37U-IT. Clock and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, three screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8117U-AL measures 12-1/4 by 8 by 1-1/4 inches. The clock keeps changing to a different time zone and the purchase disappeared from my record so I could not return it on Amazon. I am stuck with a clock that does not work properly. Failing grades for both La Crosse and Amazon. I am very dissapointed.

The clock is good, the radio transmitter works and does adjust the time for you. The outdoor temperature sensor works as advertised, and constantly updates every few seconds or so-and seems accurate. The one thing I don't like is that the moon phase seems to be "backwards" as in if the picture is all black, that actually indicates a full moon, and when its all "white" it's actually a new moon. Strange but something to get used to I guess. I don't know how to adjust the moon phase to reverse it.

I guess I should've double-checked the dimensions but this is a big clock. We have it standing on a console table in the living room and the beauty of the big display is that you can see the time from across the room. I like the external temperature transmittor - it took about 30 mins to get the temperature stabilized as we kept checking it against a mercury thermometer and then eventually they were both the same - obviously this one is more accurate due to digital readout. Same with the indoor temperature, it took about 30 mins to settle down and stabilize. I just wish the clock displayed the seconds as well. Other than that, and the fact that it is a little bigger than I realized, it's a good, accurate clock and indoor/outdoor thermometer.
