| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Tom and Dick Smothers hit show-biz pay dirt by exploring the lighter side of brotherly competition in their musical comedy act. Combining substantial folk-singing skills with barbed comic repartee, the Smothers Brothers endeared themselves to "hip" crowds and mainstream audiences alike. That feat was a considerable accomplishment in the '60s, when the recordings that comprise this generous sampler were made. The tracks include such memorable numbers as "Pretoria," "Tom Dooley," "The Saga of John Henry," "Cabbage," "I Talk to the Trees," and, of course, "Mom Always Liked You Best." --Scott Schinder

Take It! May 6, 2010 Dave_42 (Australia) - The Folk Singer Credo from the Folk Singers Guide Book: "All folk singers are obligated to `Take It!'" -
I've always had a soft place in my heart for the Smothers Brothers. Few can play the fool as well as Tom, and Dick is the perfect partner to play against Tom's antics. Add to the mix that they could probably actually be a successful folk group if they didn't simply use their musical gifts for their unique folk-satire brand of comedy. One also should not forget the way they pushed the envelope on TV, more than once. "Sibling Revelry: The Best of The Smothers Brothers" is a collection of 18 routines taken from 9 different live albums.
There is a mix of quick hitters, like "Daniel Boone", "Hangman", and "The Military Lovers" which would make a great comment on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in today's political environment, and then some very long routines like "The Saga of John Henry", and "Cabbage". All in all there are over 75 minutes of humor and their special brand of folk-music which is unlike any other. Sometimes they put a twist on a classic, other times they create their own delightful and bizarre songs, and on rare occasion they even make it to the end of the piece. The album does have a bit of a disjointed feel, as it picks tracks from different albums which causes it to lose the flow that existed on the original albums, but the routines are still very funny.
A Must-Have for Modern Smothers Fans April 15, 2010 Samantha Kelley (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Smothers Brothers were most popular during the 1960s, but their brand of comedy is timeless. Born out of mischieviousness, their songs can be enjoyed by young and old alike. They don't swear or make jokes about sex and drugs. They're just having fun, and Tommy's dumb, child-like character is a perfect platform for jokes.
The great thing about these guys, aside from the fact that they're hilarious and have great timing, is that they're good singers. Their voices blend extremely well and the serious moments can be quite moving.
This CD is great for new fans to the brothers who don't have access to a record player. Now, you don't have to buy the records to hear their performances.
If you've never heard the Smothers Brothers before, this is a great place to start. Songs like "Chocolate" and "Cabbage" are classics, and if you're a fan, get the DVDs and compare the differences between the performances.
60's Classics March 13, 2010 Lj Magic For all of us who are old enough to remember the 60's, this is a great reminder. A lot of the stuff on this album is directly related to the things we all hated & protested at that time. However, I bought this album mostly for one reason: CRABS WALK SIDEWAYS & LOBSTERS WALK STRAIGHT. I hadn't thought of this song in years, & somehow I got a memory about it & wanted to hear it again. It's hilarious & funny. The whole album is great, & it's a fun way to get a memory or two going. Enjoy!
